Cowboy Sunday

The Treadways are on the road again and this time to a small community called Dand in the southwest corner of Manitoba. You'll have to look very hard to find this one. What a treat to stay with new-found friends, Glen & Irma Whetter, on the original homestead of three generations.

The evening flew by for Tim as the men drove out into the pasture to look at other deteriorating farm houses. Oh if only those logs could tell their stories! Deanna stayed at the farmhouse sharing stories and enjoying the fresh coffee as the ladies displayed their colorful quilts. "Cowboy Sunday" was to be an old-fashioned church service on the front yard but Mother nature made us feel like we were back at the homestead...it poured!!!! Mud everywhere!! We moved the machinery out of the tool shed and set up the coffee perk, barbecues, and laid down boards for a walkway in the mud. The weather did not dampen the spirits of these cowboys and the place was soon packed. One 'old timer' sat right up front and said "there's no way they could do that" but after our presentation he just smiled as his own memories became a reality once more. A British family, new immigrants to Canada, said "We have learned more of Canada this hour than in all the museums we have visited."

We had to cut our speaking tour short in order to attend the funeral of a close friend. Our spirits were high as we headed for home as once again the memories of our ancestors were honored. They are truly our heroes.
